Valdichiana eating project: from local food markets to your table

Valdichiana Eating is relationship, meeting, sharing. We will tell you how our project was born.

The protagonists of Valdichiana Eating are the local farmers, producers of food and wine excellences in Valdichiana Senese, the restaurateurs who transform the excellences into delicious dishes and the staff of Valdichiana Eating, the project conceived by the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano e dei Sapori della Valdichiana Senese.

The event

Valdichiana Eating was born in 2017 with the organization of the first event: it was a two-day event dedicated to the flavors of the Valdichiana Senese.
The local market in the square of one Municipality of Valdichiana Senese, the square of Sarteano, was the centre of the event: here the producers presented and sold their products, chefs performed cooking shows and then used the raw materials of the producers to propose dishes created for the occasion in their restaurants.

Valdichiana Eating has materialized in the celebration of typical local products and their uses in the kitchen, with particular attention to certified, organic and short supply chain typical products. To achieve its goal, the Valdichiana Eating staff contacted hte partners network, set up the market, prepared the graphics, the menus, coordinated the photographers, managed the musical events and cooking shows and involved the public during the event.

We started from an already solid base: the partners who have been collaborating with the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano e dei Sapori della Valdichiana Senese for years. Knowledge and close collaboration with experts allowed us to organize an event that best represents the typical features of the territory and best enhances its participants.
Since that day, Valdichiana Eating has become a true network: collaborations have been established between the local farmers and producers with the restaurateurs, other events were held, repeated annually in other Municipalities of the Valdichiana Senese: in Sinalunga in 2018 and in Montepulciano in 2019.

Bottega

In the following years, we opened two Valdichiana Eating Botteghe in Montepulciano and Trequanda: two majestic places, one inside the Palazzo del Capitano in the main square of the Renaissance hamlet Montepulciano, the other one right next to the Trequanda ancient walls, in a room that houses an ancient stone mill once used for the production of extra virgin olive oil, the typical product whose quality makes this area famous all over the world.
We were in the process of selecting the third location for another Bottega but the world suddenly changed in March 2020.

The annual event could not take place in 2020 and 2021 and the shops remained closed for a while, but our ideas did not stop and the network did not lose heart and an idea that arose already a few months before came in shape, namely we are bringing our world online.
